Resumen:

La producción científica, previamente difundida a través de revistas especializadas, se hace visible mediante las bases de datos bibliográficas. Una adecuada estrategia de búsqueda permite interrogarlas e identificar los artículos más relevantes sobre una materia e indirectamente descubrir cuáles son las revistas que con mayor frecuencia y número publican trabajos sobre un determinado tema. El objetivo del presente artículo es identificar las revistas que más se interesan por la cirugía colorrectal a través de consultas en las dos bases de datos de uso más habitual en ciencias de la salud, PubMed y Embase. Se han localizado 69.713 referencias (entre 1882 y 2024), procedentes de 3.729 revistas científicas. La distribución del total de artículos no es homogénea: existe un número muy reducido de revistas (n = 25) que publica un tercio de esos artículos, mientras que casi 2.000 apenas han publicado uno o dos trabajos. Esta distribución permite vislumbrar un grupo “núcleo” de revistas interesadas en la investigación sobre cirugía de colon y recto, principalmente anglosajonas y enmarcadas en los ámbitos de la cirugía general, la cirugía gastrointestinal, la cirugía oncológica, la gastroenterología y la oncología. Entre ellas, destacan Diseases of the Colon and Rectum, Colorectal Disease, International Journal of Colorectal Disease, British Journal of Surgery o Surgical Endoscopy.

Abstract:

The scientific research becomes visible through bibliographic databases and it is disseminated through scientific journals. An adequate bibliographic search strategy allows for querying these databases and identifying the most relevant articles on a subject, indirectly revealing which journals most frequently and greater numbers publish works on the same topic. The objective of this study is to identify the journals most interested in colorectal surgery from two specialized databases, PubMed and Embase. A total of 69,713 references (dated from 1882 to 2024) have been identified, from 3,729 scientific journals. The distribution of total articles is not homogeneous among these journals: a very small number (n=25) publish one-third of these articles, while nearly 2,000 journals published only one or two articles. This distribution highlights a core group of journals more interested in colon and rectum surgery (published mainly in general surgery, gastroenterological surgery, oncological surgery, gastroenterology, and oncology journals, primarily English-speaking), with notable examples including Diseases of the Colon and Rectum, Colorectal Disease, International Journal of Colorectal Disease, British Journal of Surgery, or Surgical Endoscopy.
